Shin-Toyosu or Shiba Park: Which Is Better?
Shin-Toyosu Christmas Market
Shin-Toyosu is the only one of the two venues operating between November 20 and December 3. It fits naturally into a day around Toyosu, the market area, teamLab Planets or other Tokyo Bay attractions.
The event site is at Toyosu 6-chome in Koto City. It is approximately two minutes on foot from Shin-Toyosu Station and four minutes from Shijo-mae Station on the Yurikamome Line.
Choose it if: your hotel or sightseeing route is around Toyosu, Odaiba or the eastern side of Tokyo—or your trip ends before Shiba Park opens.
Shiba Park Christmas Market
Shiba Park is the more convenient choice for many first-time visitors staying in central Tokyo. It can be combined with Tokyo Tower, Zojoji Temple, Roppongi or a central-city dinner.
The venue is in Tokyo Metropolitan Shiba Park Area 4 near Onarimon Station. Onarimon Station Exit A6 is approximately one minute away. Kamiyacho, Daimon and Hamamatsucho are also within walking distance.
Choose it if: you want straightforward subway access, a later closing time and a central Tokyo evening route.

Tickets are sold for approximate 30-minute arrival windows. The official FAQ asks visitors to arrive within the corresponding time where possible. A ticket remains valid for that date if you arrive later, but visitors holding the current time slot may receive priority.
The organizer warns that same-day admission may be restricted during crowded periods. Advance booking is particularly sensible for weekends, December 24 and December 25.
What Can You Do at Tokyo Christmas Market?
The event is modeled on European and German Christmas-market traditions. Its central symbol is a 14-meter Christmas pyramid associated with Seiffen, a German town known for wooden Christmas ornaments.
- Try hot chocolate, non-alcoholic drinks and mulled-wine-style beverages.
- Choose from sausages, pretzels, cheese dishes, sweets and other winter food.
- Browse ornaments, seasonal gifts and European-style decorative goods.
- Watch scheduled music, stage performances and street entertainment.
- Join selected workshops where advance registration or an additional fee may apply.
- See the illuminated Christmas pyramid after dark.
Alcohol-free mulled drinks, hot tea and hot cocoa are available, making the event suitable for visitors who do not drink alcohol. Food-allergy details should be checked directly with each stall.
Outside food and drinks are not permitted. The official FAQ states that cash and supported cashless payment methods can be used at food and merchandise stalls.
When Is the Best Time to Visit?
| Time | Advantages | Considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday afternoon | Usually the easiest period for families and visitors avoiding crowds. | The lighting atmosphere is less dramatic before sunset. |
| Weekday evening | Good balance of illumination, atmosphere and manageable demand. | Arrive before the after-work peak where possible. |
| Weekend evening | The liveliest festive atmosphere. | Higher admission and a greater chance of queues or entry control. |
| December 24–25 | Strongest Christmas-date appeal. | Highest admission, heavy demand and the greatest need for advance tickets. |
For most international visitors, a weekday around sunset provides the best balance. You can see the venue in daylight, eat before the busiest dinner period and stay as the lights become more visible.
