Compare the μSKY airport train, ordinary Meitetsu trains, airport buses, taxis and private transfers from Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) to Nagoya Station, Sakae or your hotel.
Chubu Centrair Airport to Nagoya Transport Compared
| Option | Typical time | Cost structure | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Fastest μSKY Limited Express |
From 28 minutes to Meitetsu Nagoya | Regular fare plus a ¥450 first-class μticket | Solo travelers, couples and light luggage | You must continue from Meitetsu Nagoya Station to your hotel |
| Ordinary Meitetsu train | Longer than μSKY; depends on service | Regular fare when using an ordinary car | Budget-conscious travelers | Unreserved seating and less convenient with several bags |
| Airport bus | About 55 minutes on some operating city routes | Depends on route; current examples range from ¥1,500 to ¥2,000 | Sakae, Fushimi or a stop near your hotel | Main Meitetsu Bus Center route is currently suspended |
| Airport taxi | Official estimate: about 50 minutes to Nagoya Station | Official estimate: about ¥16,000 plus applicable highway tolls | Travelers who need an immediate car without advance planning | High cost and possible traffic delays |
| Private transfer | Approximately 1 hour, depending on traffic and hotel location | Pre-arranged quotation based on route, vehicle and luggage | Families, groups, children and large luggage | Must normally be arranged in advance |
| Rental car | Driving time plus vehicle pickup procedures | Rental fee, fuel, tolls and parking | Travelers continuing into rural Central Japan | Unnecessary for most central Nagoya stays |
Times are not directly comparable. Train times are station-to-station, while taxi and private-transfer times are closer to door-to-door travel. Immigration, baggage collection, ticket purchase, walking and hotel access must also be included in your arrival plan.
Option 1: Meitetsu Train from Centrair to Nagoya
Meitetsu Railway is normally the fastest and simplest public-transport option between Chubu Centrair Airport and central Nagoya. The airport station is connected to Access Plaza, and the fastest μSKY service reaches Meitetsu Nagoya Station in approximately 28 minutes.
μSKY Limited Express
All seats on the μSKY are first-class reserved seats. You need both a regular fare ticket and a ¥450 first-class ticket called a μticket.
μSKY is usually the better choice when you want a reserved seat, a predictable journey and a more comfortable place for luggage after a long flight.
Rapid Limited Express and Limited Express
Some other limited express trains have both first-class and ordinary cars. The ordinary cars require only the regular ticket, while first-class cars require the additional μticket.
Check current departure times and fares through the official Meitetsu airport access page . Centrair also publishes official airport train access information .
After arriving at Meitetsu Nagoya Station, you may still need to walk, take a taxi or use the subway to reach your hotel. The Meitetsu, JR, Kintetsu and subway station areas are connected, but Nagoya Station is large and can be confusing with luggage.
Option 2: Airport Bus to Nagoya, Sakae or Fushimi
An airport bus can be convenient when its stop is closer to your hotel than Meitetsu Nagoya Station. However, current bus operations are different from many older travel guides.
Centrair currently lists selected services including:
- Sakae and Fushimi: approximately 55 minutes and ¥2,000, subject to the current timetable.
- Nagoya Station West Gate: selected late-night or early-flight services, approximately 55 minutes and ¥1,500.
- Meitetsu Bus Center: currently suspended.
Bus schedules may have long gaps and can change. Confirm the exact stop, terminal, departure time and operating date before choosing accommodation around a bus route.
See the current Centrair airport bus route table before traveling.
Option 3: Taxi from Chubu Centrair Airport
A taxi is useful when you need a vehicle immediately and do not have a private transfer arranged. Centrair’s official estimate for Nagoya Station is approximately 50 minutes and ¥16,000, with applicable freeway charges—including the Centrair Bridge—borne by the passenger.
The final fare and journey time can change because of traffic, waiting time and your exact destination. Sakae, Nagoya Station and hotels elsewhere in the city will not necessarily cost the same.
Check the airport’s official taxi information and estimated fare table .
Option 4: Private Transfer from Centrair to Your Nagoya Hotel
A pre-arranged private transfer is normally the easiest option for families with children, groups, older travelers, guests with mobility concerns and anyone carrying multiple large suitcases.
Instead of transferring again at Nagoya Station, the driver takes your group directly to the confirmed hotel or address. Flight tracking and airport meeting support can also reduce uncertainty when immigration or baggage collection takes longer than expected.
Jatravi’s standard Nagoya transfer arrangements can use a Toyota Alphard for up to four passengers with up to four standard-size suitcases, or a Toyota HiAce for groups of up to eight passengers. Actual luggage capacity must be checked against passenger count, suitcase size, strollers, wheelchairs and other bulky items.
You can review Jatravi’s private airport transfer options in Japan, including one-way Centrair–Nagoya transfers and round-trip Centrair–Nagoya transfers .
Vehicle and driver availability is not guaranteed until your request, route, luggage and service conditions have been reviewed and confirmed.
Option 5: Rental Car from Chubu Centrair Airport
Renting a car is usually unnecessary if you are staying only in central Nagoya. Trains are faster for the airport–city journey, while hotel parking, tolls and urban driving can add cost and complexity.
A rental car becomes more useful when Nagoya is only the beginning of a wider Central Japan route, especially if you plan to visit rural areas where public transport is limited.
- Confirm that your driving licence and International Driving Permit meet Japanese requirements.
- Allow time for the rental counter and vehicle inspection.
- Budget for expressway tolls, fuel and hotel parking.
- Request suitable tyres when driving into snowy regions in winter.
- Do not drive immediately after a very long flight if you are tired.
Review the official Centrair rental-car counter information before selecting a company.
Getting to Transport from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2
If you arrange a private transfer, confirm both your flight number and arrival terminal. Meeting instructions can differ between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
See Centrair’s current Terminal 2 access information .
Which Centrair to Nagoya Option Should You Choose?
- Solo traveler or couple with one suitcase each: take the μSKY or an ordinary Meitetsu train.
- Hotel near Sakae or Fushimi: compare the operating bus timetable with a train and subway connection.
- Family with young children: consider a private transfer to avoid station changes and luggage handling.
- Four or more travelers: compare the total private-transfer quotation per group rather than only the per-person train fare.
- Late-night or early-morning arrival: check the last train and limited bus services before flying.
- Several large bags, stroller or wheelchair: confirm vehicle capacity before arranging a private car.
- Continuing to Takayama, Shirakawa-go or rural Aichi/Gifu: compare a rental car, rail connection or customized private route.
